My ZIIP HALO is easily my most used beauty device ever and I cannot stop recommending it to pretty much anyone who ever asks for my opinion on skincare, so when they announced the launch of the ZIIP HALO 2.0 (more about that here) earlier this month, I could not have been more excited to find out more, so thank you very much to the ZIIP bods who kindly sent me the device so I could start a full on Geek Out.
I won’t launch into yet another love letter to my HALO as I’ve written so much about it already (find my main post here, but also check out my dedicated ZIIP space here) so instead this post will focus on finding out more about what’s new in the ZIIP HALO 2.0 and comparing it to the older version.
So, first up, you get more for your buck as the price is the same, but you get the updated device, a pouch to store it in and a trio of the premium gels. I feel the latter element is such a smart move for both business and consumer, as I would imagine there are many out there who still use their Electric Complex Gel – the original gel that came with the original device – and are unaware of how much difference the premium gels make to the treatment. I am a huge fan of the Crystal Gel and I am absolutely, genuinely gutted to note that the formula has been updated to now include Niacinamide, which means I’ll no longer be able to use it. I will move over to the Silver Gel which (so far…) appears to be free from Niacinamide, but I am so sad as the Crystal Gel is incredible.

Next up is a game of Spot the Difference, as aesthetically there isn’t much of a change, other than a cover added to the charging port (another excellent addition as my device gets very messy) and I *think* there is an ever so slight change to the nodes on the device, as they seem a touch flatter with a less rounded look; presumably this results in better contact with the skin, but this is such a small difference that I might just be seeing things. I’ve included some close-up shots so hopefully you can form your own conclusions!
Obviously the most important difference is how it actually feels, and for the benefit of SCIENCE, I used both my old and new device together to see if the difference was blindingly obviously, and to be honest, my first impression was that the difference wasn’t that remarkable. However, as I continued on with the treatment, I realised that the biggest difference (for me) was that the contact with the skin, and therefore the sensation of the current, felt more complete and consistent than it did with the original. That, and the timing buzzer that tells you to move the device feels very different, but that isn’t really going to impact the treatment itself…although I do kind of like that element of improvement and yet I can’t really tell why!
In conclusion, the ZIIP HALO 2.0 is a refinement on the original rather than a full and significant upgrade, because really the HALO isn’t something that can be drastically improved because there just isn’t enough that needs fixing However, I do think that all beauty tech needs to be updated occasionally just to ensure that it’s as modern as possible, since technology is constantly evolving and it would be a disservice to the buyer to not acknowledge such.
To those who have recently invested in the original, please do not think you now need to rush out and buy the 2.0. Both devices will provide the same results, you just might get there slightly quicker with the 2.0. Having said that, if you’re like me and you use your HALO a lot and have knackered your original, plus you have the budget for an upgrade, then this is a lovely little bit of refinement that’ll serve you well.
