Wedding Season Beauty Prep – Beauty Geek

You might be peering out the window witnessing the never-ending rain, wondering if you’ll ever see the sun again, but believe me when I tell you that spring is just around the corner, and with that comes Wedding Season! Whether you’re attending a wedding, you’re in a wedding or you ARE the wedding (congratulations!) now is the time to start getting your beauty bits in order so you’re not caught off-guard when the big day arrives.

First up, skin prep. The best makeup in the world is not going to sit right on badly prepared skin, so you want to strike the right balance. You want to aim for skin that’s smooth, yet plump and hydrated, but not greasy. Enter, this gorgeous trio from Beauty of Joseon; these three will get your skin wedding ready in record time.

My favourite of the three is the Beauty of Joseon Green Refreshing Toner; a bargain at just £16, this contains a mix of alpha and beta hydroxy acids housed in green plum water to tackle all elements of chemical exfoliation. Thanks to the mild formula there’s zero irritation, meaning it can be used daily; however, those who are very sensitive might want to ease themselves in just to err on the side of caution. This can be used either AM or PM (or both if your skin is okay with it) but my favourite way to use it is in the morning as makeup prep as my skin feels soooo smooth after use.

Next up, the Beauty of Joseon Red Bean Water Gel (£17) is the ‘Goldilocks’ of moisturisers for wedding prep as it gives skin a big boost of hydration without adding any greasiness. Korean skincare is so good at providing hydrating products that are oil-free but still feel amazing on the skin, and this is a perfect example of such a product. Apply this in layers, straight after the aforementioned exfoliating toner, and let it fully absorb before applying your sunscreen and makeup.

I couldn’t possibly write about Beauty of Joseon without discussing their iconic sunscreens; if you haven’t tried one yet, then you are missing out. Their sunscreens are known for being do-it-all skincare that provides a multitude of benefits housed in a formula that hydrates skin without leaving a white cast. They have a few different formats and formulas (such as the Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Aqua Fresh pictured here) which works perfectly within this trio, providing essential protection for your skin, particularly if you’re regularly using an acid based toner.

That’s the skin sorted, now on to the hair; if you are a bit rubbish with doing your own hair then trust me when I say that you just need this one thing, and that is the ghd Rise Volumising Hot Brush (£179.) This device is so incredibly foolproof and it does so much in such an intuitively basic format; I was very impressed when I started using it and I actually look forward to styling my hair with it – something I never thought I’d say about a hair styling device!

What I really love about it is that you can style your hair depending on how much time and/or effort you’re willing to allocate to the task: just have a couple of minutes? Grab a few sections on the top of your head, wrap each one around the brush facing away from you and lay the freshly styled hair backwards to set for instant root lift. If you have a bit longer you can grab a few random sections and wrap the hair around the brush keeping it horizontal to the head to add some texture and movement – that’s actually my favourite way to do it – and if you have longer and fancy a full head of bouncy hair, then get sectioning and (hair) wrapping! How you hold the brush against your head dictates whether you get a curl or just movement and texture, so you really do have a lot of options from a device that really is so simple and easy to use.

The ghd Rise Volumising Hot Brush also reaches the optimum styling heat of 185C in a super speedy 25 seconds, has cool-touch bristles so you can get right to the root (so important for decent root lift,) has a good sized barrel of 32mm – so chunky enough for volume, but slim enough for beachy waves – and all this comes in an extremely lightweight device. Can you tell I’m a fan?

Here is my finished wedding look! I prepped my skin with the aforementioned Beauty of Joseon skincare, I did the world’s quickest bit of texture adding with the ghd Rise Volumising Hot Brush, I’ve got my wedding top on (it’s this Curve Cowl Neck one – I love both the pattern and the neckline!) and I matched my makeup to my outfit with a lilac and purple theme, because not all wedding colours need to be ivory, peach or pink…
